Not only is the Mac Pro cheaper than its hardware equals, but it is far superior in general. The apple blog is running a story about his first impressions of the Mac Pro. To test the power he opened up 23 applications right off the boot.
Then I proceeded to open every application using the classic select all - command ‘o’ method. This unit had 23 applications open in 1:14s. Apps like Photoshop, Final Cut, DVD Studio, the entire iLife suite, and all the normal suspects. 3GB of RAM certainly helps this.
I know I for one can barely open photohop in like 30 seconds, especially when I am multitasking, but to open all those programs at the same time is sick.

What are you running? I just timed PS CS2 opening. Took 11 seconds. I have Adium, Skype, Shrook, Safari, Terminal, Remote Desktop, TextEdit, and iTunes open when I clicked it.
This is a 1.8ghz G5 with 2 gig of ram.

Mine photoshop opens in about 8 secionds on the macbook pro, however photoshop is not supported universally yet, so thats a biased benchmark.
