Well I know that my PC has froze in the past, but when I was trying to sleep earlier tonight and found myself looking at a frozen image on my TV I wondered if it was just the channel. After flipping through the channels I found myself almost entirely overcome by frozen television. The number of channels I counted was 49 from 1-70. For the most part the only channels working were the local ones and the channels that aren’t worth watching. The channels that mattered? Comedy Central, TBS, VH1, MTV, TNT, and well everything with watchable television on at night.
The only station that has saved me is NBC with some good’ol Conan. Either way it’s been over 10 minutes and I am still looking at about 70% of frozen television.
Also note this is not an isolated issue, I live in Arnold Maryland, and two of my buddies in Severna Park which is a different area code are seeing the exact same problem, and have been for the past few days.
Update - The channels all unfroze, moved for a about a minute and then all froze again, so that means this has been going on for about 20 minutes?
Update 2 - Now all the channels that were frozen are simply blacked out, its now 3:45 am, the entire problem started around 3:12 am. These times are Eastern Coast times, interested to know if anyone else is having this problem maybe not in the state of Maryland?
Update 3 - It’s now 4 am and Conan is over so I have nothing to watch, all the channels are still blacked out, so now I am going to go to sleep, so I am not gonna know how long this outage lasts.

this was happening to me a lot and comcast had me unplug everything for a few minutes and that seemed to solve the problem for a little while, but it eventually returned. they finally came out two days ago and found some potential issues in the way things were wired in the basement, so i think the problem is solved.

Well the thing is, these potential issues with wiring suddenly appear out of no where? no it’s a problem with the service in general, I have had kids 10 experiencing the trouble at the exact same time as me, on the exact same channel, that don’t live in my area. :/ gg comcast

Cable Tv is getting so expensive & it is off more that it is on. No storms, no reason. Start watching a show & off it goes for hours. The same shows keep repeating hour after hour. Price goes up service goes down. We need somone to come in & give them a wake up call.
Michigan. Many are just dropping TV.

I have had the same issue several times over the last 6 months. I am in Michigan. My parents live about 15 minutes away and don’t seem to have the same issue when I have it. I have called customer service several times and have gotten the run-around. It started again tonight and I called the service desk again. I spent about 30 seconds on the phone with the CSR and had her move me up to the next level. I talked to a CSR manager about this issue occuring again and again. He told me that this particular outage was due to their satellite feeds being down. He took my cell phone number and is going to have the field service manager for my area give me a call about the issues. I’m a systems engineer, so maybe I can get this guy to give me some “real” info on what the problem is. From what it sounds like, it’s not a regional issue. Maybe a satelite on the fritz or some core router/WAN link that’s got some issues. I’m guessing that it’s a huge issue that they know about and are trying to keep quiet while they try to fix it.

I am switching verizon tv this week
.
But I like how the guy called it a “satellite” issue, especially since cable is supposed to have none of the satellite issues like in there so-called commercials. :/

Same problems here north of Detroit. Generally almost impossible to reach 1-800-COMCAST to ask about problems. They have a recording saying they are experiencing high call volumes and go to comcast.net. But comcast.net live service is also understaffed.
It seems like they could at least have some message saying whether large areas are out of service. They want you to “ditch the dish” but the dish was never this bad…………

Similar here about 8 miles N of Detroit. Some random channels just scramble pretty bad at all hours regardless of the weather which I would agree is not supposed to be a factor but there are sat links to the station networks from what I understood. My main question is has anyone compared this with WOW service? I doubt the service would be that much different depending on the reasons (Street lines overhead or Comcast hubs, etc) but at least the prices are supposed to be cheaper. Also we rent a house here where the landlord would frown on a roof dish. And we have large trees in the yard.

Well it is happening again today. Of the 72 channels I get with the “Digital Basic” thru COMCAST 41 of them are frozen solid. I finally got thru to them and now a technician is going to have to come out. So I have to wait around all day for an appointment I know they will cancel because it is not just a individual problem, but a total outage. When I get to the end of the $99 special, I will be dumping the COMCAST Phone and the Cable and switch to WOW. The Internet is the only good thing about COMCAST, but it is just a matter of time till they screw that up also.

I live in Pottstown, PA. Our TV’s freeze for seconds at a time on a regular basis. Seems like almost all channels. Has been going on for about a month. Never had a total freeze, though. Seems like every problem we’ve had with Comcast, the answer has been “the wiring needs to be redone.” Over the weekend we were at our Jersey Shore home, and (surprise) had the same problem there. This is on all TV’s, most channels, and both states!

I had Comcast stations freeze twice for about an hour in the last couple of weeks in Marblehead, Massachusetts. We counted over 20 stations frozen. Too bad Verizon FIOS hasn’t been approved by the town yet.
22 Jim // Nov 13, 2007 at 8:54 pm
Tv will freeze for a few seconds, just enough to mess up the movie. Next door has the same problem. Service on 11/14/07 we will see if we go to the dish or ATT
23 mike // Nov 19, 2007 at 9:41 pm
same here in northern nj. It’s a real annoyance when watching sports, especially hockey. Waiting in Live Chat at comcast for 45 minutes and no resolution. Time for Verizon FIOS.
